2005 Chrysler 300 Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service a Steering Wheel to Ensure Proper Functionality on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: Prior to handling the steering column, the air bag system needs to be disabled to avoid an accidental air bag deployment and injury. Applying the correct torque to fasteners is necessary to maintain correct operation of the steering column. Start by standing with the front wheels at zero degrees and fully stretching the steering column. Release the negative cable from the battery and after that, remove the air bag (4). Following that, get rid of the retaining bolt, then the steering wheel slides easily off the shaft (2, 3). If you replace the wheel, make certain that any connected components are moved as well. The next step is to place the spline of the steering wheel onto the column shaft and install the steering wheel. Put on a NEW retainer bolt (2) and tighten it to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.). Fix the air bag (4) back in place and link up the negative battery terminal and, if fitted with ESP, make certain the steering angle sensor calibrates correctly. Check to see if the horn, lights and all other functions controlled by the steering column are responding correctly in the end.
