2005 Chrysler Pacifica Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Drive Belt on a 3.5L Engine on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: The first step is to hoist up the vehicle and take off the drive belt guard. Don't let the drive belt tensioner recoil, as it could injure you or harm your engine. Situate a wrench above the belt tensioner lug, turn the tensioner counterclockwise to loosen the belt and then remove the drive belt. When it's time to return the tensioner, move it back to where it was before you removed it. Take away all remnants and check for oil, grease and coolant in the belt pulley grooves prior to placing the new belt on. Excessive wear, damaged cord or severe glazing means you need a new belt; minor cracks on the Poly-V belt are normal, but parallel cracks are unacceptable. Poly-V belts should always be free from belt dressing or restorer. When installing, first fit the drive belt onto all the pulleys, except the crankshaft. Turn the tensioner in the direction opposite to how a watch or clock moves until the belt fits over the crankshaft pulley, then slowly let go of the tensioner. Lastly, confirm that the belt travels through each of the pulleys and fastens to them all, garage the belt guards in place and drop the car back to normal height.
