2005 Chrysler Town & Country Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How tonsufficient Coolant Levels and Air Trapped in the Heater Core Impact Performance, and How Can These Issues Be Prevented on 2005 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: To access the rear heater core, you must remove the rear HVAC housing above the radiator fill opening which explains why draining and refilling the system won't helper the rear heater core since it is higher than where the process is done, leaving both the engine cooling system with insufficient levels and the heater core full of trapped air. It helps to put the engine coolant mixture in the rear heater core before connecting it back to the other heater hoses following repair. The heater core should be installed in the rear HVAC housing and placed in the car alongside it; then, put a funnel in the top hose fitting on the heater core and pour coolant until you see it at the lower hose. Finish by reattaching the heater hoses and filling the coolant in the engine. If the rear heater core has not been pre-filled, you need to perform thermal cycling which includes replacing the coolant, turning on the engine, checking at the thermostat opens, allowing the engine to cool, checking and topping off coolant and repeating the process twice.
