2004 Chrysler Town & Country Heater Core Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Rear Heater Core on 2004 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Drain the engine cooling system as your first step when servicing the rear heater core. Take off the right-side inner quarter trim panel's quarter panel and D-pillar trim panel. After that, separate the rear heater duct from the right quarter inner panel. Take out the screw at the back of the rear HVAC housing next to the right D-pillar and remove the other screw at the front of the rear HVAC housing fastened to the right quarter inner panel. Set towels below the rear heater core to prevent coolant leak damage and grab them quickly whenever you see a spill. First, loosen the heater hoses from the rear heater core, then fix plugs in or tape the opened heater core fittings and heater hoses. Remove engine coolant from the floor or pavement if it is splashed there during service. Disengage all four tabs holding the heater core and then gently pull the heater core through the front opening in the HVAC housing. If the hoses to the rear heater core or rear HVAC housing have been removed, it's necessary to place the engine coolant mixture into the rear heater core before attaching the hoses back. Place the heater core in the rear HVAC housing and press the end plate downward, making certain the latch tabs are all the way in. Uncover the fittings on the heater core and disconnect the heater hoses at the back, then put the hoses back onto the rear heater core. Secure the front screw of the rear HVAC housing to the right quarter inner panel and tighten it to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs., then do the same with the screw at the back of the rear HVAC housing to the right D-pillar. Attach the rear heater distribution duct and after that install the right quarter trim panel and right D-pillar trim panel. After that, make sure to refill the engine cooling system.
