2005 Dodge Caravan Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Clock Spring Assembly on 2005 Dodge Caravan?
A: Start by aligning the steering wheel and the front wheels and then open the hood after pushing the hood latch in. Take off the negative cable from the battery and let the air bag reserve capacitor discharge for two minutes to avoid accidental air bag deployment. Pull out the driver air bag from the steering wheel and undo the wires connected to the back of the air bag. Lift the 2-way connector off the remote radio control harness and cut off the connection between the 4-way connector and the speed control/horn harness from the Clock Spring. Take off the steering wheel and if the vehicle has traction control, disconnect the connector on the steering column shroud. Loosen and remove the single upper connector on the Clock Spring and the four lower connectors between the column assembly and the instrument panel harness. After that, loosen the two retaining screws on the Clock Spring from the column assembly. Connect the column at both ends of the Clock Spring and plug the 4-way and 6-way connectors to the panel wiring harness. After that, reinstall the steering column shrouds and attach the traction control wire connector (if one is present) and then slot the steering wheel into place. If your RC has a horn/speed control, link the 4-way harness connector to it and if there is a 2-way radio control, connect it to the remote. Install the driver air bag and tighten the screws to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Do not attach the negative cable to the battery before you perform the system check for your safety.
