2006 Dodge Caravan Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Clock Spring Assembly on 2006 Dodge Caravan?
A: Items you'll need. Screwdriver, Flashlight Small air bag systems have a reserve capacitor that can cause accidental air bag deployment if moved the wrong way. For this reason, you should detach and isolate the negative battery cable for two minutes before proceeding. Get the driver air bag out of the steering wheel and cut off all the wires attached to it at the back. After that, separate the 2-way connector from the remote radio control harness and the 4-way harness connector from the speed control/horn harness that is joined to the Clock Spring. Start by taking out the steering wheel, next get rid of the steering column shrouds and if you have traction control, unhook the corresponding connector. Disconnect all four and six-way connectors matching these to the Clock Spring and instrument panel wiring harness and loosen the two socket head screws on the Clock Spring to remove it. Attach the Clock Spring to the column and then connect all wires: the 6-way connector to the instrument panel harness and the 4-way connector to the driver's side harness. Remove the steering column shrouds after reinstalling them and also connect the traction control wire if your car has it, before installing the steering wheel. Join the 4-way harness connector with the speed control/horn harness and join the 2-way connector with the remote radio control harness if your vehicle provides it. Following this, set the driver air bag and tighten the two screws with a torque of 10 N.m (90 in. lbs.), but do not attach the battery negative cable before performing the system test to remain safe.
