2005 Dodge Dakota Door Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Door Hinge Without Taking Off the Door on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: If the hinges are situated this way, you won't need to take out the door and be sure to seal the holes with appropriate body sealant when working on the rear door hinges. Open the front door and then pull out the b-pillar trim from the bottom (4). Point out the location for the door hinges with a grease pencil; do not pull the epoxy bonded washers away from the hinges or the door will need to be re-adjusted. Place a lifting device under the door and then remove the two nuts and two bolts that hold the door to the hinges. Pick a place for the hinge on the door and b-pillar to help with installation and then unscrew the two bolts (3) each hinge. From inside the car, unbolt the remaining screw (2) holding the hinge (1 or 4) to the b-pillar and remove the hinge. During installation, exchange shouldered door studs (1) with service studs that have no shoulder to adjust door position as needed, then tighten them to a torque of 12 N.m (105 in.lbs.). If the hinge requires it, paint it, apply it to the b-pillar using the marks you made when removing the door and bolt it on using '3' bolts tightened to 28 N.m (21 ft.lbs.). Attach the bolt on the inside (2), then turn it tightly up to 28 N.m (21 ft.lbs.). If you remove the epoxy bonded washers, replace them with new ones. Put the nuts and bolts loosely into the hinges until you're ready to close the door, line up the door using the reference marks and finally tighten them to the correct torque specified on the original instructions. Upon necessity, change the door hinge and set the left b-pillar trim back into place (4).
