2005 Dodge Dakota Pilot Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Pilot Bearing on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: The first step for servicing the pilot bearing is to deconstruct the transmission, remove the transfer case if you have one and escape the clutch housing. After that, remove the clutch cover and disc. Whip out the best blind hole puller to extract the pilot bearing. First, use solvent to clean the bearing bore; then wipe it clean with a dry shop towel. Attach the bearing with the clutch alignment tool (2) so that it stays straight and doesn't become cocked. Tap the bearing in until it is placed flush with the lip of the inside bore, without ever hitting a recess. The side of the bearing with a letter (3) should be placed near the transmission. When done, install the clutch cover and disc, after which set up the housing, transmission and transfer case if included.
