2005 Dodge Durango Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service the Air Bag Control Module on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: Service for the Air Bag Control Module requires you to turn off the supplemental restraint system by disconnecting the battery negative wire and letting the system discharge completely for at least two minutes. Don't strike or let the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) fall, as it houses the important impact sensor for deployment; if it is dropped, the module is no longer usable and must be ditched. Never replace the Occupant Classification Sensor (ORC) and Occupant Classification Module (OCM) at the same time in vehicles with the Occupant Classification System (OCS), because you will make a fault that cannot be resolved. First, remove the negative battery cable and next unbolt the center console from its location in the transmission tunnel. Take out the two body wire harness connectors from the ORC by depressing their release tab and raising the lever arm. Remove the three screws fastening the ORC to the ORC bracket and remove the ORC from the machine. For assembly, put the ORC on the ORC bracket so the arrow on the label is forward and the pin is locked. Attach the ORC with the three screws at 11 N.m (8 ft. lbs.). Make sure the levers on the wire harness wires are not locked before you reconnect them to the ORC. Perform the supplemental restraint system verification after finishing any repair on that system and don't connect the battery negative cable until this test is passed.
