2005 Dodge Durango Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: You need to first disconnect and isolate the negative side of the battery to service the auxiliary cigarette lighter. If you are using a cigarette lighter, remove the knob and element from inside the cigarette lighter receptacle and for a cigarette lighter, unsnap the protective cap from the receptacle base. Inside the base of the receptacle, locate the rectangular retaining bosses that hold it in place on the panel. With the external pliers, place the snap ring tips into the spaces of the bosses, press down with your pliers to unseat them, then sideways rock the pliers to remove the bottom from the mount. Remove the base of the receptacle from the instrument panel so you can access the wire harness connector and release it from the base connector. Take out the mount from inside your instrument panel. To install the instrument, join the wire harness connector to the receptacle base connector and put the mount into the instrument panel, so that the splines in the receptacle line up with the grooves in the mount. Push the components down until the retaining bosses are in place. Then, fix the other component (or the protection cover) onto the center and attach the battery's black cable.
