2005 Dodge Durango Seat Heater Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service a Seat Heater Without Causing Permanent Damage on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: To service the heated seat portion, the OEM heating elements (3) should not be removed out of the seat or seat back cushions, they are permanently attached and are permanently damaged when removed. The new heating element is of the sort that can be directly placed on the seat cushion. This should be started by removing and isolating the negative battery cable. Then, move on to eliminate the suitable seat cushion or seat back trim cover and detach the inoperative heated seat cushion or seat back element electrical connectors (2). Find the wires that are connected to the nonfunctioning heating element and disconnect them, to a flush close edge of the broken heating element. To install it, merely remove the adhesive protecting the back of the replacement heatingdt element and apply to the foam cushion or over the original heating element and do not crease, or fold, the heating element assembly as this will cause premature failure. Join the two new heating element electrical connectors (1&2), the battery negative cable can be then reconnected and heated seat system functionality checked. Lastly, put the right seat cushion or seat back trimring cover in the car making sure the seat wire harness is properly routed and the excess wire between the cushion and back pieces have been properly fastened between the back of the cushion foam and the back carpet flap of the trimring cover.
