2005 Dodge Durango Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: Before servicing the fuel rail, release the fuel system pressure, because it is kept under constant pressure even when the engine does not run. The left and right fuel rails should be swapped out as a unit and bending or curving the tubes should be avoided before removing them. To start, take off the fuel tank filler tube cap and do the fuel system pressure release process. Lose the negative cord from the battery's terminal, remove both the duct and the box at the throttle body and come off the mounting bracket of the air resonator using two bolts. To remove the fuel line as well as the clip for the fuel rail, special tools are required. Take out any important vacuum lines and disconnect all six injector electrical connectors by moving the red tab away from the engine bay as you depress the tab, too. The factory tags on the wiring harness identify each injector. Once that's done, disconnect the wires from every throttle body sensor and take out the six ignition coils. Then, unscrew the four fuel rail mounting bolts and carefully rock and pull the fuel rail until all the injector burners exit the cylinder head holes, then carefully remove the fuel rail and all injectors attached to it. If you remove fuel injectors, perform the right procedure. When installing, first remove the dirt from the fuel injector rules in the intake manifold and apply just a bit of oil to each fuel injector O-ring to help with installation. Place the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly over the machined openings on the cylinder head, guiding each injector so that you do not rip the O-rings. Press down on both ends of the fuel rail to ensure the injectors are properly set on the cylinder head lung, then put in the four fuel rail bolts and tighten them to a torque of 11 N.m (100 in. lbs). Once you have the coils, attach the connections to the throttle and all fuel injectors. Make sure the connectors are correctly secured in each case. Replace any reverse-rotation vacuum lines, attach the air resonator bracket, clip and join the fuel line to the fuel rail and finally reinstall the air box and air duct. After that, reattach the battery cable, begin the engine and check if any leaks are present.
