2006 Dodge Durango Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service and Install a Fuel Rail on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: Always empty the fuel rail before service, as the fuel will stay pressurized after the engine is switched off. Because the design doesn't have clamps, replacing the left and right rail units together is required and the rail halves should not be separated at the connector tubes. You should not bend or twist the tubes while taking them out. Start with removing the fuel tank filler tube cap and do the Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure after that. First, pull the negative cable off the battery, next, remove the air duct and box at the throttle body and lastly, get rid of the air resonator mounting bracket up front. Remove the clip that holds the fuel line to the fuel rail using the correct tool and disconnect the fuel line too, then take out any vacuum lines from the throttle body. On each fuel injector, use the red button to push the slider away, release the tab and then release the connector from the port. Tags are placed on the factory fuel injection wiring harness so injectors can be identified easily. After that, unplug the electrical connectors from all throttle body sensors, remove the coils on top of the spark plugs and take out the bolts from the rail mounting bracket . Roll and pull the fuel rail on the left and watch as the fuel injectors clear the holes in the cylinder head. Then repeat this motion on the right side for all fuel injectors to be clear. Take out the fuel rail together with the injectors attached from the engine. If fuel injectors are being used, coat the machined bores in the intake manifold with oil, add a bit of oil to the O-rings on each injector and set the fuel rail/injector assembly into the openings in the cylinder head. Put one injector into the cylinder head at a time, being careful not to damage the O-rings and then, using both hands, push down on the fuel rail until all the injectors are set. Attach and fasten all four rails to the engine, secure the six ignition coils and join the electrical wires from the throttle body and injectors. Attach the air resonator mounting bracket, join the latch clip to the fuel line and fuel rail and put the air box and duct together again. After that, securely attach the battery cable, begin the engine and examine for any oil leaks.
