How to Properly Service a Muffler on 2005 Dodge Durango?

Before servicing the muffler, you should lift the vehicle on a hoist and take out the exhaust pipe. After that, loosen and remove the muffler-to-catalytic converter clamp (3) and the muffler isolators (1 and 4) and remove the muffler (5) from the catalytic converter. During installation, place the muffler over the catalytic converter, match the tang seats to the slot and do not yet tighten the exhaust clamp. Put in the muffler isolators and the exhaust pipe, match the muffler and pipe together and tighten the exhaust clamp nuts to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.). After that, check if any part of the exhaust system is touching the vehicle paneling and repair it as necessary. When the body work is done, raise the vehicle and then lower it again to inspect for exhaust leaks. Repair any leaks you find.
