2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Needs Inspection and Replacement After an Air Bag Deployment on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Should a Driver air bag be deployed because of a collision, you should replace the Driver air bag, Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly w/Lower Steering Column Coupler and inspect and fix all other air bag and vehicle components with clear damage. A replacement of the Passenger air bag means all associated parts, as well as other components, require the same check and replacement. Should a Knee Blocker air bag be deployed, the Knee Blocker air bag and Instrument Panel and Pad Assembly are to be replaced and other parts are checked for damage. After a Curtain air bag is deployed, you have to replace the Curtain air bag Assembly, Headliner and A, B and C-Pillar Trim on the side where air bag deployed. Because of impact, a car's Occupant Classification System (OCS) should be checked and its components replaced when damaged, including items like the Belt Tension Sensor, Occupant Classification Module (OCM), Passenger air bag ON/Off Indicator and Seat Weight Bladder and Sensor. Under no circumstance should both the ORC and the OCM be replaced at the same time, because it could bring about a permanent mistake in the OCS and result in malfunction. Because the OCS is sensitive to weight, it should be reset before moving forward and the air bag system test needs to be completed successfully. After that, the OCS must be checked with a scan tool and the proper diagnostic information. After using an air bag during a front impact, the Front Seat Belt Buckle (driver and passenger) with integrated Tensioners should be replaced and other seat belts must be reviewed and fixed if they have any damage. Also, after an accident, examine the Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) anchors for harm and replace them if necessary.
