2005 Dodge Neon Exhaust Pipe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Pipe on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: Before service or repairs on the intermediate pipe in the exhaust system, first have the car up on a hoist, grease the band clamp fastener using penetrating oil and avoid greasing muffler or exhaust pipe isolators with petroleum lubricants; a liquid dish soap and water mixture works better. First, eliminate the muffler, then take off the band clamp joning the catalytic converter to the intermediate pipe. Then, remove the pipe's intermediate support isolator, divide it at the slip joint and get rid of the intermediate pipe. Clear any blockages from the pipe ends and muffler for a good seal and if anything is worn, rusted or broken, get rid of it. installed, do not make the clamps very tight until everything is aligned and the space is even. Fasten the intermediate pipe to the catalytic converter, the isolator support to the underbody, the muffler to the intermediate pipe and the isolator supports to the underbody. Keep every component in line from the system front and tighten all band clamp screws to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Do not fasten the band clamps all the way, since this will press the hourglass part to the base and spoil the clamp. When you are ready to change a band clamp, remove the nut, relax both sides and break the spot weld until the ends come loose, so the new one goes in the same way. After finishing, link the exhaust system ground strap, run the engine and ensure there are no leaks around the exhaust system and body.
