2005 Dodge Neon Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a High Output Exhaust Manifold for High Output on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: First remove the negative cable from the battery and elevate the vehicle using a hoist to access the high output exhaust manifold. Take apart the assembly by removing the bolt joining the wire harness heatshield to the exhaust manifold support bracket and then the bracket itself. With the fasteners off, push the exhaust system rearward so the flange doesn't touch the vehicle's body and then safely lower the vehicle. Remove the make-up air hose from where it attaches to the rear of the cylinder's cover and the sensor and harness clip side by side. Get the attachments that keep the heat shield and upper heat shield in place and remove these first, then get the bolts from the exhaust manifold and remove the manifold placed between the cowl and the vehicle's head. Attach the exhaust manifold and its gasket during installation, then tighten the exhaust manifold bolts using the right sequence to get 23 Nm of torque. Install them on each side of the exhaust manifold, put in the heat shield bolts and tighten them up to 11 Nm (95 inch lbs.). Attach the oxygen sensor connector and clip to the wiring and then connect the make-up air hose to the hole in the cover on top of the cylinder head. Repeat the process and align the exhaust ports. Then, use a new flex joint to gasket the manifold flange, link the exhaust to the manifold and tighten the screws up to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.). Fit the exhaust manifold support bracket once more and tighten up all the bolts and the clip the wire harness heat shield to the same bracket afterward. Reduce the jack to the minimum point and reconnect the negative battery cable.
