2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: First, remove the transmission from inside the car and then change the flexplate to service and repair the crankshaft main bearing seal. When you remove the crankshaft oil seal, do not plan to reuse it. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal remover using Special Tool 8506, turning it in until you can't change its position, as otherwise the tool may not finish removing the seal. You can remove the crankshaft rear oil seal using Special Tool 8506. Before installing, grease the crankshaft flange with engine oil and on the crankshaft rear face, put the magnetic seal guide Special Tool 8349-2 onto the seal and place the crankshaft rear oil seal onto the guide. Use tools 8349 and C-4171 Driver Handle to strike the seal installer down into the cylinder block until it touches the crankshaft bore. After that, install the flexplate and the transmission back into place.
