2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an Oil Filter on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before doing anything else, put a drain pan below where the oil filter will be removed. With a suitable wrench, loosen the filter and turn it counterclockwise to take it off the cylinder block oil filter boss. As soon as the filter breaks, raise the gasket end slightly and pull the filter out of the vehicle, making sure the gasket was also removed. Wipe the part of the gasket that makes the seal to remove dirty oil and grime. Start by applying some oil to the filter's gasket and then put the filter onto the adapter nipple. Once the gasket is touching the tank, twist the filter by hand one complete turn. Also, include oil, look into the crankcase oil and then ignite the engine as you look for any leaks.
