2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before you begin, always separate the terminal from the negative battery cable and then lift and secure the vehicle off the ground. With 4WD and some transmissions, remove both bolts from the support bracket at the transmission to lower the starter so you can remove its bolt. Remove one bolt and one nut if your car uses a manual transmission, but if it's automatic, remove two bolts. Slide the starter motor to the front of the vehicle until the center of the starter pinion housing clears the housing and don't let the starter hang by the wire harness. Bend the nose of the starter downwards and lower the starter so you can reach and separate the nut holding the battery positive cable wire harness connector eyelet to the solenoid's battery terminal stud, then take out the battery positive cable wire harness connector eyelet from the solenoiding battery terminal and finally, disconnect the battery positive cable wire harness connector from the the solenoid terminal connector receptacle prior to removing the starter. For installation, lead the solenoid wire to the starter motor, place the battery cable on the solenoid stud and use the proper torque to tighten the eyelet nut on the battery cable, preventing the starter motor from resting on the wire harness. Slide the cooler tube bracket behind the transmission if you are using an automatic transmission, then set the starter motor and install all necessary bolts for automatic transmissions or one nut and one bolt for manual transmissions, following the given torque values. Now, raise your car, put back the negative battery cable and reconnect it.
