2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Battery Tray Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Battery Tray on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing or repairing the battery tray, unplug the three pin connector (11) from the battery tray (12) and then take out the battery from the tray. Then, unscrew the two screws (3) holding the battery tray (4) to the inner fender and radiator bracket, plus one screw (2) securing the outboard side to the left fender, together with one nut (1) securing the rear to the stud (5) on the front frame rail. After the engine has cooled, get rid of the first components and then remove the battery tray found in the left front corner. Before installing, check and clean the battery tray, then set both it and the support unit into the right front corner of the engine compartment, making sure no hoses or wire harnesses are trapped. After securing the rear of the battery tray, connect the outboard side (4) to the frame with screw (2), making sure to tighten each securely (both to 7.3 Nm (65 in. lbs.)). After that, place the battery tray onto both locations and bolt it in place with the two screws (3), tightening each to 7.3 Nm (65 in. lbs.). Then, connect the three pin connector (11) from the battery wire harness to the battery tray (12) and put the battery back onto the tray.
