2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain the Belt Tensioner on a 3.7L Engine on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First disconnect the drive belt on your 3.7L engine, then remove the tensioner from the engine cover in front of the motor. Because of the high spring tension, it is important that the automatic tensioner should be taken apart as an assembly, excluding the pulley. To fit the tensioner, set the indexing slot on the back against the bolt's head on the front cover, attach the mounting bolt and tighten it to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Once done, replace the drive belt and see if the belt indexing marks line up.
