2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Drive Belt on a 3.7L Engine on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Start the drive belt service for a 3.7L engine by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Adjust the tensioner so it touches its stop and remove the belt, then slowly roll the tensioner into the free position. Place the new belt according to the Belt Routing Label in the engine compartment, since improper belt routing might make the engine overheat because the water pump won't operate correctly. Look at the condition of each pulley before routing the belt around each pulley except the idler. Bring the tensioner arm to the point where it comes into contact with its stop, then lay the belt over the idler and guide the tensioner so it is placed on all pulleys. Also, check the belt wear indicator; it should show less than 24 mm (0.94 inches) of distance between the tang and the housing stop on 3.7L engines.
