2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Remove and Install a Steering Wheel with Proper Airbag and Electrical Connector Management on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First turn off the drivers side air bag and get rid of it before removing the steering wheel. After that, disconnect every electrical connector (please see picture). With the bolt only partly removed from the steering wheel, fit a puller or similar tool over the nut at the bolt's top and push it down until the bolts are fully inserted into the steering wheel. With the steering wheel out, fit the new wheel to the column, slipping the bolt through the wheel and tightening it, as the old bolt should not go back on. Tightening the steering wheel mounting bolt to the proper amount of torque helps guarantee correct Clock Spring operation and should be tightened to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Next, connect all electrical connections and mount your drivers side air bag.
