2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Rocker Arm Assembly on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before working on the rocker arm assembly, remove the battery negative cable since engagement of the starter could accidentally happen. Take off the cylinder head cover. To take off the rocker arm on cylinder No. 4, put the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 is just before top dead center on intake. Rotate the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 is at BDC combustion stroke for testing. Turning the crankshaft, ensure cylinders No. 3 and No. 5 reach TDC, as this is done with cylinder No. 1. Move the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches TDC ignition stroke for cylinders No. 2 and No. 6. To remove the rocker arm, use Tool 8516 and press downward on the valve spring. Press down on the valve spring with Tool 8516 as you install the rocker arm, so the concave pocket sits above the lash adjusters and prevents serious damage. Apply a little clean oil to the rocker arms before you fit them before installation. For the rocker arm installation on cylinder No. 4, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 goes to BDC intake stroke. Move the crankshaft until the piston in cylinder No. 1 is at bottom center of combustion. When working on cylinders No. 3 and No. 5, set the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 is on its exhaust stroke. Turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is at the TDC ignition stroke for both cylinders No. 2 and No. 6. At last, put the cylinder head cover in place.
