2006 Jeep Liberty Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Release Bearing on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: The first thing to do to service the clutch release bearing is to take out the transmission. Unplug the release bearing from the release fork and get rid of the bearing. Check the slide surface of the transmission front bearing retainer, changing it if you find scoring, wear or cracks. Pull back on the release fork and fork pivot while checking that the pivot is secure and in good condition and make sure the fork is not damaged or worn; change the release fork retainer spring if you find it is bent or damaged. To perform installation, coat the crankshaft's pilot bearing with Mopar high temperature bearing grease or a similar product, apply grease to the side of a long shank, small diameter flat blade screwdriver and insert the driver into the clutch disc hub hole to grease the bearing. Oil the splines of the input shaft as well as the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing retainer slide and both pivots of the fork. After that, install the updated bearing and put it in the release fork before putting the transmission back.
