2006 Chrysler Pacifica Piston Ring Set Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What is a Piston Ring Set and How to Service It on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: You should first remove the piston and connecting rod to service the piston rings. Put the piston rings on the ring expander tool so that ring No. 1 and No. 2 pop off, then you can remove the upper rail, the lower rail and the oil ring expander. Check the space between the piston rings and the cylinder and piston and make certain that the No. 2 piston ring is installed so its dot (I.D. mark) is nearest the top of the piston. Piston rings are installed from oil ring expander to No. 1 upper piston ring in the order written above. Start with one end of the side rail between the piston ring groove and the expander, press until it is in place, but do not use the piston ring expander for this action. Mount the upper side rail first, after that attach the lower side rail, making certain the No. 2 piston ring is positioned with its I.D. mark facing up. Then, put in the No. 2 piston ring and the No. 1 piston ring, keeping the end gaps correct and ensuring the oil ring expander is at least 45° from the side rail gaps to prevent it from touching the piston pin center or going in the thrust direction, so oil control works well.
