2006 Chrysler Pacifica Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and Inspecting Camshafts During Cylinder Head Disassembly on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Before anything, remove the camshaft from the back of each cylinder head by removing the cylinder head. Don't nick or scratch the journals as you remove the camshaft. With the cylinder head removed, the camshaft is easily taken out from the rear end of the cylinder. Check the journals on the camshaft to see if they are damaged or if anything is binding and if binding is there, carefully examine the cylinder head for any damage and confirm all its oil holes are not blocked. Take a look at the cam lobe and bearing sides to detect any damage or wearing, changing the camshaft if problems are found. Rocker arms should be replaced when the camshaft is changed, because it's likely that the rocker arms are worn too. Check that the lobe actual wear is 0.0254 mm (0.001 inch) or less and replace the camshaft if the wear reaches or passes 0.254 mm (0.010 inch). While the camshaft is out, rub clean engine oil on the bearing journals, cam lobes and seal and then place the camshaft in the block before attaching the cylinder head.
