2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Fuel Tank Module on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before you start to service the module, make sure you release all the fuel pressures and carry out the job outside in a ventilated area, not smoking near the area to keep yourself safe. First, open the fuel filler cap and do the Fuel System Pressure Release as described in the manual. Following that, take off the top of the air cleaner, disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor and the makeup air hose and next remove the negative battery cable. Raise and prop up the vehicle, take out the fuel tank and clean the area around it to remove anything loose. Look for the fuel pump on the tank and remove the fuel filter lines from its module. Make sure you open the lock ring and release the pump module using Special Tool #9340 because the fuel might spill. Release the fuel pump module and then throw away the seal. During installation, clean the seal spots on the tank and fit a new seal over both holes. Place the fuel pump module in the tank and keep the alignment tabs synchronized for Gas or Diesel fuel tanks. Firmly placing the module, place the lock ring over its opening and install it with Special Tool #9340. Replace the fuel tank, set the vehicle on the ground and link the negative battery cable. Once these steps are done, fit the air cleaner lid, hook up the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose, put gasoline in the tank and run the system with the Scan Tool to find leaks.
