2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover While Ensuring Proper Timing Cover Installation on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: You need to remove the front timing belt covers, the timing belt and timing belt idler pulley 1 from the bottom of the motor before servicing or repairing the rear cover. After that, use Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847 to hold the camshaft sprockets while you remove the bolts. Then, unscrew all three rear timing belt fasteners, including 1 and 2 and lift out the cover from the engine compartment. For your convenience, we have not replaced the rear timing belt cover. To install, place it back and fix it into place with fasteners 1 and 2. Ensure that the M6 bolts are tightened to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) and the M8 bolts to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.). Position and attach pulley 1 with its fastener and tighten it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). You should not screw the camshaft sprocket bolts with an impact wrench to protect the camshaft-to-sprocket pin. Place the camshaft sprockets with the Camshaft Sprocket Holder 6847 and tighten the center bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) Make sure to replace the timing belt and the timing belt covers up front at the end.
