2006 Chrysler Sebring Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Assemble the Rear Shock Absorber System on 2006 Chrysler Sebring?
A: If you have removed the coil spring from the compressor during disassembly, place its lower end back into the spring compressor at the same position using the lower hooks, as advised by the manufacturer. In disassembly, the spring compressor's hooks go on the top of the coil near there; so, do the same to get the shock back on and then press the top of the spring until the coil is short enough to install the upper mount. Add the lower shock isolator bushing to the bottom of the upper shock mount, pointing the small end away and then attach the upper isolator bushing and sleeve into the upper mount, seating it onto the lower bushing. After that, place the lower coil spring isolator on the shock's lower spring seat, then install the jounce bumper on the rod of the shock absorber. Set the collar under the shock absorber rod with the overlooked side of the sleeve facing down and push it to be seated on the tip step of the rod. Insert the shock through the coil spring to reach the lower coil spring and while the lower spring seat is touching the coil spring's lower end, hold the shock absorber in place with a clamp. Seat the dust shield and cup over the jounce bumper onto the shock absorber rod and then add the lower shock rod bushing retainer washer to the rod. Place the upper spring isolator onto the top of the coil spring so the bottom of the isolator is around the coil's inside diameter and so that the end of the coil fits into the step in the isolator. Install both the upper shock mount bracket and the rod isolator bushings as a group at the top of the shock absorber's rod and then place the upper shock rod washer, concave side up. Rotating the shock rod is prevented using Snap-On A136 or equivalent, while the retainer nut is secured to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) using an extension and crow foot wrench. Put the shock so the bolts on the stud lines up with the hole found on the upper shock mount. Let the tension out of the spring by releasing the compressor drive until the upper mount, isolator and coil spring are back in their proper positions. Take off the clamp from the lower end of the spring and shock, bring both spring compressor hooks closer and then remove the shock assembly from the spring compressor. Afterward, place the shock assembly on the vehicle.
