2006 Dodge Dakota Starter Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: When working on a manual transmission starter motor, begin by cutting off the battery's negative wire and raise and support the car using a jack and jack stands. When the vehicle has 4WD and some transmissions, remove the two bolts at the transmission and gently pry up the support bracket to expose the lower starter bolt. Connecting bolts and nuts reattachment is done by loosening bolt (9) and nut (8). Move the starter motor forward along the motor arm (3) until you see the starter housing come free from the housing. Be sure to support it, but not leave it hanging by its wires. Tilt the nose towards the floor and lower the starter motor so you can access and remove nut (2) which attaches the battery positive cable wire harness connector eyelet to the solenoid battery terminal stud. Disconnect the end of the battery positive cable wire harness (7) from the receptacle on the solenoid and then remove the starter motor. The solenoid wire should be connected to the starter motor, be sure it snaps in place and set the battery cable to the solenoid stud before tightening the battery eyelet nut (2) on the harness as directed by the manufacturer. Secure the starter motor (5) to the transmission and use the right torque to put in the lockwasher (6), nut (8) and bolt (9). After that, return the car to the ground and attach the negative battery cable.
