2007 Dodge Dakota Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Starter Motor from a 3.7L or 4.7L with Manual or Automatic Transmission on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: To take out the starter motor from a 3.7L or 4.7L manual vehicle, start by breaking the negative battery cable connection, then prop up and secure the car. If the vehicle has 4WD and some transmissions, take out the support bracket bolts at the transmission and pull the support bracket down a bit to get to the lower starter bolt underneath. After that, unscrew the one bolt (9) and the one nut (8). Keep moving the starter motor (5) towards the front of the car until the edge of the starter pinion passes through the housing cleanly. Hold or support the starter motor while you do this, instead of allowing it to slide on the wire harness. Lower the starter motor, then pull down the nose slightly to disconnect nut (2) which ties the positive cable eyelet to the solenoid terminal stud. After that, pull the positive cable eyelet connector (1) away from the solenoid terminal stud. Pull the positive peripheral wire connector (7) out of its place on the solenoid and then take the starter motor out. For an automatic transmission, take the same first steps: cut the connection to the negative battery terminal and raise the vehicle. With the bolts out, push the starter motor (4) forward, always supporting it through your elbow. Pull down the nose and lower the starter motor to unscrew and remove nut (2) securing the battery wire harness eyelet (5), connected to the solenoid battery terminal (1), at the connecter. Then, unplug the positive battery cable wire harness connector from the solenoid terminal connector receptacle and take out the starter motor.
