Before servicing or repairing universal joints with rings, tighten the shaft yoke in a vise. Set the press up so that the receiver presses the U-joint inside the propeller shaft yoke's cap. After you have removed the first bearing cap, lift up and turn the shaft, then continue pressing the rest of the bearing cap. After detaching the U-joint and flange from the shaft yoke, put the U-joint press on the flange with the receiver and squeeze out the bearing caps. Unscrew and remove the outside bearing cap and then push the rest of the cap off before you take out the U-joint. Install the new joint in the flange with just one bearing cap, then use the press on the flange and bearing cap to press until the new joint's groove for the snap ring appears. Attach the snap ring to the bearing and after that repeat the procedure for the remaining bearing cap. Place the flange and U-joint in the yoke, press together using the press with the receiver and the lower bearing cap and wait until you can see the slot for the snap ring before installing it. Press the next bearing cap down until the grove in its snap ring falls through the yoke and slide the last snap ring onto its groove.
