How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2006 Dodge Durango?

First, if you are working in the vehicle, take the transmission off and then remove the flexplate. A crankshaft oil seal needs to be replaced once it is removed. To remove the crankshaft rear oil seal, install Special Tool 8506 fully into it and lock it in place with repeated tightening or it might come loose before you take out the seal. When installing, cover the crankshaft flange with engine oil, lie Special Tool 8349-2 onto the crankshaft rear face and put the new oil seal onto the guide. Tap the seal down and into place using Special Tool 8349 and C-4171 Driver Handle while you're hammering it so that the seal installer is against the crankshaft bore in the engine block. Then, put back the flexplate and tighten the transmission in place.
