How to Service a Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Dodge Durango?

If the main bearing seal is changed with the vehicle in place, you will first remove the transmission and then remove the flexplate. You cannot reuse the crankshaft oil seal after you take it out. Insert Special Tool 8506 into the seal to extract the crankshaft rear oil seal and tighten the tool until you notice it is not turning anymore; improper installation may make the tool pull out without removing the seal. Put some oil on the flanges of the crankshaft before you place the Special Tool 8349-2 over the rear side of the crankshaft and slide the new rear oil seal over the guide. Hammer the seal into position with Special Tool 8349 and the C-4171 Driver Handle until the installer touches the cylinder block crankshaft bore. After that, reattach the flexplate and the transmission.
