2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Brake Master Cylinder on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: For brake master cylinders, aside from Hydroboost, start by using the brake pedal to expel air from the booster unit, followed by removing and draining the fluid from its reservoir. Turn off power to the low fluid level connector and put a towel or cloth over the area at the brake master cylinder outlet port to avoid brake fluid damage to your car. Take out the three brake lines from the brake master cylinder plus the nuts and carefully lift the brake master cylinder away from the booster, angled away from the front so that the rod is not blocked. When fitting a new brake master cylinder, bleed the system first and verify that the brake booster's output rod is in place and fixed by its retaining ring, so there is no problem with fitting the brake master cylinder plunger sleeve on installation. Make sure the brake master cylinder flange and its neck are sealed with a vacuum seal that is properly square. Insert the brake master cylinder onto the booster's mounting studs, keeping the plunger aligned with the output rod so you can easily lift it and attach the mounting bolts. After installing a new set of mounting nuts, tighten them until you reach 25 Nm (221 inch lbs.); for the brake lines, tighten the bolts to 19 Nm (170 inch lbs.). Turn on the electrical connection for the low fluid level switch and lastly, fill and flush the bottom part of the braking system.
