Before servicing or repairing HD brake calipers, lift and support your vehicle, then take off the tire and wheel. Press the disc brake caliper, unbolt the banjo bolt and garbage the copper washer and loosen the slide bolts to pull the caliper away. After draining the brake fluid from the caliper, set a block of wood beneath one piston, hold it with a C-clamp and have a padded piece of wood in front of the second, to avoid any damage to it. Blow some low-pressure air puffs into the caliper brake hose to help you take out the first piston, always avoiding using forceful blasts. Seat the C-clamp over the hole before you remove the second piston and its bore. Take off the piston dust boot using a suitable pry tool so you don't damage the piston bore and remove the piston seals from the caliper. Push out the bushings holding the caliper feet in, remove the boot seals and then remove the bleed screw. Inspect the pistons and remove and replace any with cracks or scoring. If you do replace them, use pistons made for the same type of engine. Should you find small defects, use a brake hone to polish the bore and if the damage is very serious, replace the caliper. When putting things together, make sure to clean and dry the area, grease every joint with clean brake fluid and push new piston seals into the caliphers. Put some silicone grease on the boot lip, fit the boot over the piston and press it into place. Put Handle C-4171 and Installer C-3716-A beside the caliper bracket and then push the dust boot into the caliper bore using those tools. Process this step for the next set of parts, then brush the caliper mounting bolt bushings, boot seals and bores with Mopar brake grease or Dow Corning 807 grease. Insert the boot seals and see that the seal lips are touching the bushings, after that apply the caliper bleed screw. Before installation, place a new copper washer on the banjo bolt, install the brake caliper and ensure that the brake hose isn't twisted before tightening the holding bolt. To assemble them, install the banjo bolt along with new copper washer, secure it at 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.), then install slide pin bolts on caliper with a torque of 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). After that, bleed the basic brake lines, refit the tire and wheel assembly and regain control over the vehicle when it is lowered.
