2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Steering Knuckle on LD 4X2 and 4X4 on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Always clean and dry the tapered end of the ball joint stud before installing it in the steering knuckle for either LD 4X2 or 4X4. For installation with ABS brakes, make sure the speed sensor opening is located at the front of the vehicle. First, put the hub/bearing onto the steering knuckle and use 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.) of force to tighten the bolts. Afterward, attach the knuckle to the upper and lower ball joints, secure the upper and lower ball joint nuts and tighten the upper ball joint nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), adding an extra 90° turn, as well as the lower ball joint nut to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.), adding another 90° turn. When the hydraulic jack is removed from the lower suspension arm, attach the tie rod end and tighten the nut so that you reach 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). On a vehicle with a front halfshaft, set it into the hub/bearing and screw it down using a torque of 251 Nm (about 185 ft. lbs.). Main steps are to place the ABS wheel speed sensor, brake shield, rotor and caliper before mounting the wheel and tire. After that, take out the support, lower the car and have a wheel alignment done.
