2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Wheel Bearing on the Rear Axle of the 10 1/2 AA on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Begin the service and repair of the 10 1/2 AA's rear axle by taking out its axle shaft flange bolts and the axle shaft. After that, get rid of the retainer ring in the axle shaft tube and the hub bearing nut locking key in the tube as well. You should use Socket 8954 to get rid of the hub bearing nut and then both the hub and bearings on the axle will come off. Lift out the hub bearing seal from the hub's back, making sure that its inner part is removed too, using a pry bar. The rear bearing and both hub bearing cups can be removed with a hammer and a drift. For installation, start by placing the outer hub bearing cup with Installer 8961 and Handle C4171, after which you put the inner hub bearing cup with Installer 8962 and Handle C4171. Apply lithium grease to the bearing, then set up the rear support component and a new grease seal using Installer 8963 and Handle C4171. Lift up the wheel and pass the hub onto the axle tube. Install the front bearing into the hub after that. Rotate the hub while holding the hub bearing nut with Socket 8954 and a torque wrench at 30 Nm. Back up the gain approximately 30° so that the next hub nut's key fits into the axle tube's key, then set the locking key and verify that there is between 0.025 and 0.25 mm of end play. Then, slide the retainer ring on so the ring end fits in the key, add a gasket at the end and reinstall the axle shaft.
