2006 Jeep Commander Battery Tray Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to maintain a battery tray in a gas engine on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: To maintain the battery tray for a gas engine, you need to take out the battery from inside first. Unplug the black battery wire harness three pin connector (11) from the battery tray (12). After that, remove the two screws (3) holding the battery tray (4) to the radiator bracket and the inner fender plus the one screw (2) on the left side of the tray. Next, unsecure the battery tray at the rear by removing nut (1) and take it out from the corner of the engine compartment which is the left front position. While installing, inspect and clean the battery tray, set it in the engine compartment's right front corner and make sure hoses or wires are not being pinched or trapped. Fasten the rear of the battery tray to stud (5) on the front using nut (1) and tighten it 7 N.m (65 in. lbs.). Then, install the screw (2) at the other side of the battery tray (4) to the left inner fender, making sure it's tightened to the right torque specification. After that, tighten the battery location screws (3) to the battery support tray (4) and the bracket on the radiator support until the tightness reaches 7 N.m (65 in. lbs.). After that, put the three pin connector (11) of the battery wire harness back onto the battery tray (12) and attach the battery to the tray.
