2006 Jeep Commander Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before you begin working on the fuel rail, make sure to lower the pressure in the system since it stays high, even when the engine isn't turned on. The rails should be changed as a part without making an attempt to divide them at the ends because the connection tubes lack clamps. Open the fuel tank filler tube cap first and then carry out the fuel system pressure release procedure. Remove the negative battery lead, take out the air duct and air box at the throttle body and remove the mounting bracket for the air resonator using two bolts. With a special tool, unclamp the fuel line latch clip and the fuel line to the fuel rail and remove them. Take out any vacuum line and remove the electrical connector of each of the six fuel injectors by pushing the red slider away from the injector and depressing the tab. Factory fuel injection harness is tagged to help in understanding the location of the injectors. Remove all electrical connectors from the throttle body sensors and then take out the six ignition coils and four fuel rail bolts. Gently shake and draw the left fuel rail a little, then do the same for the right side until all fuel injectors can remove the debris from the machined holes in the cylinder head. Take out the fuel rail with the injectors connected and begin to put in the injectors. Clean the fuel injector machined holes in the intake manifold before installing and apply a bit of engine oil to each fuel injector O-ring. Install the fuel rail/injector assembly into the cylinder head making sure the injectors do not damage the O-rings. Press the right side of the fuel rail down until the injectors hit the top of the cylinder head and then push down on the left side the same way. Install and tighten the four fuel rail mounting bolts and after that, reinstall the six ignition coils. Lock in all of the electrical connectors to the throttle body and to every fuel injector by gently pulling on the connector. Reattach the required vacuum lines, set the air resonator mounting bracket in place with two bolts and attach the fuel line latch clip and fuel line to the fuel rail. Return the air box and duct, link up the battery connection again and start the engine to examine for leaks.
