2006 Jeep Commander Hazard Warning Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Service a Hazard Warning Switch with Airbags on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before service the hazard warning switch, first turn off the supplemental restraint system for vehicles with air bags by detaching the negative battery cable and waiting two minutes for the capacitor to discharge. Start by taking off the upper and lower shrouds from the steering column. Lift the back of the hazard switch and tug the Steering Control Module (SCM) lever straight out to pull the hazard switch off. With the switch held firmly in position, place the new switch to the back of the SCM and bring the switch connector up to meet the receptacle inside the SCM. Pull the switch all the way down until its plastic latch fits nicely onto the switch's back. After that, install the upper and lower shrouds back onto the steering column and link the battery's negative cable again.
