2006 Jeep Commander Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an Ignition Lock Cylinder on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before removing the ignition lock cylinder, first take apart the negative cable from the battery. Replace the screws in the bezel with a plastic trim removal stick. When the key is in ON, pull the release tab, located on the right side of the assembly and take out the ignition lock cylinder. To install, place the ignition key into the lock cylinder and turn it until the retaining tabs press down on the side of the lock cylinder. The position of the socket connected to the end of the housing should also be ON so it is in line with the shaft at the ignition lock cylinder's end. Place the ignition lock cylinder so that the ridges in the housing slide into those on the cylinder, then slide it in until the tab appears through the opening in the side of the housing. After that, put the bezel back on and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
