2006 Jeep Commander Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Change an Oil Filter on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Place a drain pan under the engine oil filter before you start service. Get an oil filter wrench that will match your filter, turn it to loosen, then turn the filter loose and out of the oil filter boss by turning the wrench counterclockwise. Lift the gasket side of the filter upward when the filter separates to prevent a big mess and confirm the gasket was removed along with the filter when it comes off. Clean the part of the engine that the gasket sits on by wiping it with a cloth. Lightly use engine oil to grease the oil filter gasket before screwing the filter onto the adapter nipple. With the gasket pressed against the wall, turn the filter tightly one full time, being careful not to overdo it. After that, pour in engine oil and check its level, then make sure there are no small oil leaks as you start the engine.
