2006 Jeep Commander Radiator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Radiator on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: You should drain the coolant in a clean container, connections after removing the negative battery cable to take out the radiator. Start by taking out the front grille, unscrewing the two radiator mounting bolts and disconnect both transmission cooler lines, the fan control solenoid electrical connector and the power steering cooler line. After that, detach the upper and lower radiator hoses, as well as the overflow hose and then remove the air inlet duct as well. Take care not to lose the alignment dowel pins at the bottom of the radiator tank, as they slip into rubber grommets fastened into the car's lower crossmember. When you have an AC, you need to know that it's working under high pressure constantly. The assembly of the radiator and the cooling fan can be removed at once, without first removing the fan. Unplug the two fluid lines and the hose from the hydraulic fan drive and lift the radiator up carefully to not touch other parts. Use cold water and compressed air from the front of the car to wash off debris from the back of the radiator if the engine is not hot. Look at the cooling fins to see if they're straight and also check the plastic end tanks and radiator neck for any cracks or leaks. While you are installing, keep an eye that the rubber air seals are in the right spots. Put the lower components of the system into the car, ensuring the dowels go through the rubber seals and into the rubber grommets. Attach the upper and lower hoses while making sure the clamp tangs are facing down, afterward fit the coolant reserve/overflow tank line, link the transmission cooler lines and install the radiator bolts. Replace the air inlet tube, electric wire for the hydraulic fan control solenoid and the grille. Link the high-pressure lines to the hydraulic fan drive and then tighten the 1/2 inch fitting to 49 Nm and the 3/8 inch one to 29 Nm. Place the low-pressure hose and insert the spring clamp and finally, connect the power steering filter hoses with new hose clamps. By hand, rotate the fan blades and clear any blockages, fill up both reservoirs, release trapped air, reattach the battery and drive the vehicle to look for leaks.
