2007 Jeep Commander Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Can Proper Radiator Installation Prevent Overheating on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: Before you install the radiator or A/C condenser, double-check that the rubber air seals that bind the radiator to the body and A/C condenser are secure, because these seals stop the engine from overheating. When the air conditioner is equipped, push the radiator and fan shroud down gently, making sure to place the radiator's two alignment dowels first in the holes of the lower seals above the air conditioner, then push them through the support brackets and lastly ensure they line up with the grommets on the lower radiator crossmember. You should place all the holes in the L-shaped bottom brackets between the rubber air seals and the rubber grommets on the bottom of the condenser. Join the upper and lower radiator hoses with hose clamps and ensure the tangs of the hose clamps are aimed down. Fit the hose from the coolant reserve/overflow tank at the radiator and attach both ends of the transmission cooler lines. Put in both the radiator mounting bolts, slide in the inlet duct for the grille and attach the electrical cord for the fan solenoid. Attach the grille and attach the hydraulic hoses from the two high-pressure lines to the hydraulic fan drive. At this point, tighten the 1/2 in. fitting to 36 ft. lbs. and the 3/8 in. fitting to 21 ft. lbs. Couple the lower pressure hose to the fan drive on the hydraulic pump, then attach the spring clamp and hook the power steering hoses to the filter with new clamps. Spin the fan with your hand to check if anything is blocking it at the shroud, top up the cooling fluid, top up the power steering fluid and remove trapped air from the system. At the end, connect the battery cable and try starting the engine, being sure to check for any fuel leaks.
