2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering Cooler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Power Steering Cooler on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir first to start repairing or servicing the power steering fluid cooler. If your engine is over 3.7L, first peel off the hood weather-strip seal at the cowl and then pull out the six grille push pins. Detach the reservoir return hose from the cooler and also the steering gear return line at the gear to cooler. Lift the cooler out of the snap-in holders on the a/c condenser and take the whole unit and its hoses out of your car. Like the manual or auto models, begin by draining the fluid and then remove the hood weather-strip seal and grille push pins from the 5.7L or diesel models. After that, remove the cover on the quick connect and then use tool 8875-A to remove the quick connect line from the fluid cooler. Take off the spring clamp on the cooler to return hose, remove both hood latch support brackets and take out the three bolts holding the cooler onto the vehicle, then you can take the cooler out. For installing these models, fit the power steering cooler with its hoses, attach it to the a/c condenser, link the steering gear return line again and hose for the reservoir, put enough fluid into the power steering, bleed the system, turn on the engine to see for leaks and replace the hood and grille weather-strip seal. On the 5.7L and diesel trucks, set up the fluid cooler and use all three bolts to secure it. Then, return the hood latch brackets, reconnect the power steering cooler line to the fluid cooler's quick connect, reattach the cooler to reservoir hose with the spring clamp, top up the power steering fluid, release and clear any air from the fluid system, start the engine to check for leaks and put the grille and hood weather-strip seal back.
