2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Radiator on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You should remove the radiator by first taking out the negative battery cable and opening the coolant drain to empty the fluid into a container for later use. Undo the front grille, as well as the radiator bolts, before you remove both fan control solenoid cables and the transmission cooler lines, the power steering cooler line and the upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove the duct under the grille and don't forget to watch out for the alignment dowel pins in the radiator tank which you have to put into the rubber grommets pressed on the crossmember. When equipped with air conditioning, keep in mind it is always under stress. The assembly of the radiator and cooling fan can be removed without unfastening the cooling fan first. Separate the two high-pressure lines and the low-pressure hose connected to the fan housing behind the radiator and then ease out the radiator, supporting it so you don't bump into or touch the fins or condenser. With the engine cool, connect your hose to the radiator's backside and spray out any debris with cold water and air. Check whether the cooling fins have any bends, bumps or cracks, make sure the plastic end tanks and radiator neck are not damaged and check for leaks. Make sure both rubber air seals are in the correct place as you install the radiator. If your car has air conditioning, push the radiator and fan shroud through until the alignment dowels fit through the rubber air seals and into the grommets. Connect the bottom and top hoses, keeping their tangs on the hose clamps straight up and down and attach the coolant reserve/overflow tankhose, both transmission cooler lines and the radiator screws. Replace the air inlet duct, connect the electric wire to the hydraulic fan control solenoid and put on the grille. You should next link the hose fitted for the hydraulic fan drive, tighten both fittings, the 1/2 inch to 49 Nm and the 3/8 inch to 29 Nm, then position the spring clamp over the low-pressure hose. Attach new hoses to the power steering filter with clamps, turn the fan to confirm there are no conflicts with other parts, add liquid to the cooling system and power steering tank, bleed the air, join the battery cable back to its place and then test the engine for any fluid leaks.
