How to Maintain the Belt Tensioner on a 3.7L Engine on 2006 Jeep Liberty?

Before taking care of the tensioner, take off the belt from the engine's accessories and remove the tensioner from the front of the engine cover. Do not take apart the automatic tensioner because of its high spring tension, as the entire assembly is serviced, besides the pulley. After that, get rid of the pulley bolt and retrieve the pulley from the tensioner. Start by installing the pulley and fasten it with the pulley bolt, checking that torque is at 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Place the tensioner's indexing slot against the bolt head on the front cover, then attach and tighten the mounting bolt until you have reached 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After that, install the drive belt and confirm that the belt indexing marks are correct.
